Grace Baptist - Gilmer, TX

Andy Plunk is the pastor of a new church in Gilmer, TX. I didn't even know where Gilmer was until two days ago. Andy has come a long way in such a short time. He started with a handfull of people who were meeting for bible study on Sunday night and Wednesday night, while attending church on Sunday morning in Kilgore, TX (some 30 miles away). They didn't have a building, they didn't have a pastor and they didn't have a church in their home town. In comes Andy and Marie.

Today, they are on the brink of breaking the 100 mark in attendance. There is a sense of excitement among the people. It was a genuine joy of talk with these people and see the excitement on their face as they talked about their church and their pastor.

God has given them a great building, complete with gym. I have no idea how many square feet he has but I am guessing somewhere in the area of 30,000+, all for $350,000.00. It is located directly across the street from Walmart and next door to Brookshire store, on highway 271 which goes right through the center of town. They even have a mosh pit. Really!!! It was an Apostolic church, so there is this huge space between the platform and the front pew, the place where the former church members would dance during the service. I was kind of hoping to see a little dancing, but alas, Baptist are a more reserved crowd. ;-)

Anyway, if you ever get North of I-20 on US Hwy-271, stop into Grace Baptist Church in Gilmer, TX and get a glimps of what God has done for Andy and a handful of people who desired to see a church in their town that they could call their own.
