Sayre, PA

Well a New Year is underway. It is hard to believe that after this month I finish 5-years in evangelism. It hardly seem possible. Yet here we are starting the year 2006 and I am still going strong.

I just got back from Sayre, PA. "Where in the USA is Sayre, PA?" you may ask. Well, I'll tell you. It is right on the Pennsylviana/New York border a little to the right of the middle of the state. Basically Sayre is part of what is know as Waverly and South Waverly. Now to really confuse things, South Waverly is in PA while Waverly is in NY. Thus the town is actually divided by the state line.

It was cold for this Southern boy, but to them, they were in a heat wave. It actually reach 40 deg. while I was there. The pastor, Rev. Jim Fox, told me that just a couple of weeks ago they were at -6 deg.; man am I glad I missed that. I'm not used to Yankee country in the winter.

Ad to the cold the fact that the airplain trip to PA was the most uncomfortable that I have ever flown. I don't think there was any padding in the seat that I was assigned to ... and I had to sit in it for 3 1/2 hours. It gave me a brand new meaning to "Pain in the butt." I am thankful that the ride home was much more comfortable. I actually had a whole row to my self on the return trip, which meant that I was able stretch out and relax. That was a welcomed change.

Anyway, I was at Keystone Baptist Church in Sayre, PA where I presented my "21st Century Family" conference. This was the first time the pastor had tried to have a winter meeting so he was not sure how it was going to turn out. It was a good meeting but he did not have the numbers he was hoping to have. However, for those who were there, they seemed to enjoy the meeting.

I was able to meet some wonderful people, including a young couple who just found out that they were going to be new parents. What a joy. There were several young couples there, something I always like to see at the Family Conference. If young couples will just grasp some of the things talked about, then they will save themselves a lot of potential heartache down the line.

On Monday, the Pastor and I took a short drive to a neighboring town where he bought a new laptop computer. I lusted just a little over the 17" monitor. I thought I had a nice computer (and I do) but that 17" monitor made my computer look dwarfed. The computer he bought is actually the same computer I have only a newer model. I have 20GB more HD space but he has a bigger monitor. Oh well - life goes on. Maybe on the my next computer I will get the bigger monitor, however I doubt it ... that computer bag starts to get heavy lugging it around through the airports. I do know my next purchase is going to be a nice computer bag on wheels. :-)

The only sour note to the whole week was the fact that my battery on my phone totally died. I am only able to use my cell phone if I am plugged in somewhere. I tried to get some help at one of the Verizon service centers in Circuit City but the sales rep. was one of the rudest individuals I have ever come across in the service industry in a long time. So I am looking at all my options now. I don't know if I am going to stay with Verizon or not. My 2-year contract is up in May. They have a little hook to keep customers by giving them $100.00 every 22-months toward a new phone. The catch is, you have to sign a new 2-year contract. So I figure that if I am going to have to sign a new contract anyway, then I might as well price shop them. Now I have to compare minutes, price of the new phones, roaming, rollover minutes vs. whatever else there is to compare to that. One thing I know I am going to do is go strictly cell phone. I am going to totally cancel my home phone. I will only be able to be reached via cell phone. This will save me close to $300.00 a year or more, depending on my usage on my home phone. The price just keeps going up and I don't really use it all that much ... never for long distance, so why bother with it. SBC, you are fired come March or May (depending on whether I stay with Verizon or not).

Well, I have mostly rambled with this post. I wanted to get something out about my visit to the frozen tundra though, so there you go. I hope the following blogs will be a bit more interesting. I did try to take some pictures from my balcony of the snow falling, but I was so cold and it was night time, which meant that I had to set the shutter on my camera to remain open for several seconds, and I was shaking because again, I was so cold, that the pictures never turned out. [Now, if you followed that last sentence, then you are better than I give anyone credit].

Later everyone!
