San Antonio, TX
I just returned from Universal City (San Antonio), TX. It was a good week. I was with Joe Warren at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Joe is doing a really good job in this difficult work.
He is pastor of a military church as his church is located just about three blocks from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. If you understand anything about a military church, then you know that about every three years you can count on several people shipping out to a different location. This seems to be one of those years for him.
What has made this more difficult is that he has had some very key people ship out this time: Staff Sargeant, Captian, Master Sargeant and such. These guys were not only key people in the church in many areas including a deacon, Sunday School teacher and such but they were great testimonies at the base. To say "They will be missed!" is an understatement.
Despite that, there is a great spirit in the church. Present in the services was a family who was part of the Katrina catastrophy. One of Joe's members had family in New Orleans and they have relocated to live with him and his sister. It was a joy to see their positive spirit and this church has rallied behind them with support including, but not exclusively, cash to help them get grounded again.
Joe and Cindy have been in San Anotnio for about 16-years and have stayed by the 'stuff' even in the midst of difficult times. I have seen many others leave when times get a little tough, but no Joe and Cindy. They are troopers, they love their people and their people love them.
Next week I am off to Middletown, New York - just outside of New York City. I am hoping to get some pictures and video while I am there. I will be blogging more later as this trip end. From Middletown, NY I will hope a flight to Detroit, MI to be in Leslie, MI, so I am hoping for a good trip and some great video and still footage.
-That's it for now.-
