Leslie, MI

After New York, I caught a flight to Detroit ... the motor city ... and then headed West to Leslie, MI to be with Butch Chapman. I have known Butch for several years as he allowed me to be in his church when he was in Odessa, TX.

Butch and Adrian have done a great job in this church in Leslie, a little town with one motel that is not really worth the expense, so I stayed South of Leslie about 12 miles in the town of Jackson for less cost and more amenities.

I spoke on the family Friday night, Sat. morning (to the men), Sat. evening and all day (three times) on Sunday. It was a busy weekend.

Since I have been traveling more by air than vehicle of late, I have been trying to figure out how to effectively do music in each place. Some of the songs I do are on Mini-disk, which was a popular format several years ago. However, since MP3's have become more popular the Mini-disk is dying out. I carry two MD's with me that have a total of about 50 songs on them as well as three CD's. I am finding that a lot of churches do not have a MD player so my MD's are basically useless. Bro. Chapman was a tremendous blessing to me with a surprise purchase of the last MD player Bestbuy had in the store. It is a small "Walkman" style player that I can easily carry with me, thus allowing me use of my MD's. Eventually I will convert all my songs to an MP3 format and get them all on one MD but until then, this is such a blessing, and cheaper than an iPod ... which I have no doubt that I will one day aquire ... but not anytime in the near future.

Butch's youth guy is Adam Herald. Adam is son to Bill Herald, pastor in Sparta, IL who I have also had the honor of being with. Adam is a newlywed who didn't make it but a couple of month before ... SURPRISE ... you're going to be a daddy. I had fun with Adam and his bride as I know exactly where they are, being that my wife became pregnant with our son, Jeremy just two months after we were married.

Butch has such a great spirit in his church with some of the greatest men. I had the joy of speaking to just the men on Sat. morning about fatherhood and it was such an encouragement to see these guys excited about being all they can for their wife and children.

There were a couple of people (couples) who told me that this conference was "just in the nick of time." I can guarantee you that this is nothing wonderful or powerful on my part, I'm just the messenger. On Sunday night the alters were full with husbands and wives praying together. I was moved when I witnessed one couple, probably in their early 50's pray together, then on their knees, before returning to their seat, embrace and just hold each other for about 30 sec. Stuff like this make my job a ton of fun.

I enjoyed Leslie and the great people of Bible Baptist Church. I look forward to the opportunity to minister in your midst again soon.
