The "Real" Iraq
This week I traveled to Baldwin City, KS (known by the locals simply as Baldwin). It has been a great trip as I have made new friends and have been able to get to know a new pastor ... Bro. Richard Austin.
One thing that really was a blessing to me happened on Sunday morning. A young man by the name of David Dunbar had just returned from active duty in Iraq. David gave a testimony on Sunday morning of how God had protected him as well as the times that he had taken the time to share the gospel with fellow soldiers. He shared how some had given their life to Christ and even how he was watched a few of his friends slip from this world. He shared how that he had seen things that he never wanted to remember again ... although we all know that this is impossible.
I had a moment after the service to personally talk with David. This is a sharp young man who proudly represents his country. He told me that the new media is doing a grave injustice to what is taking place over in Iraq.
He told me of the progress in rebuildng this country, how that he and his troop had stood as "security" while the construction workers diligently worked to rebuild water towers, dams, buildings and more. He told of children that would come up to them and thank them for their new found freedom.
Don't believe everything you see on the news, it is indeed slanted. If you want to know what is going on overseas, talk to someone who has been there as I did.
The greatest tragedy in Iraq is the spiritual war that is being fought. Yes the war is a spiritual war, but more than the obvious, is the unseen spiritual war that is taking place for their very soul. The people of Iraq have been beaten down for years and are just now experiencing freedom ... let's pray that they also are able to experience the spiritual freedom from the bondage that Satan has held them in for so long.
